Creating communities of belonging

The Success of the Movement!

This video premiered at April's Third Annual Weave and Cleave Conference! Our movement's success is a testament to over 50 statewide leaders, 75 faith-based organizations, 150 trainings, and annual conferences drawing 300+ participants and 50+ experts. In this video, you’ll learn more about the Creating Communities of Belonging Project.

The “Weave and Cleave” movement is growing by pursuing unity, diversity, unconditional love, renewed identity, and trauma-informed communities of co-journeyers. In collaboration with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, The Faithful City launched the Creating Communities of Belonging project to equip faith communities in building safe, compassionate spaces where people feel connected rather than corrected, share struggles with empathy, and cultivate hope and resilience for the journey ahead.

This initiative integrates trauma-informed care, substance use prevention, and practical toolkits for creating non-judgmental communities, along with strategies for future planning.

Dr. Jamie Sanfilippo, Dean of Huntington University Arizona and Professor Sanghoon Yoo cordially invite you all to Creating Communities of Belonging Training 2.0. This session offers a refresher for past attendees and a guide for the future direction of the movement. The training is free of charge, and lunch will be provided.

Listen to our latest podcast!

Tammy grew up in a Christian family dedicated to ministry and education, which for their family meant moving. A lot. By the age of 13, Tammy had moved 32 times, an experience that taught her the value of connection and community. Later in adulthood, after a divorce from an abusive marriage, Tammy also learned the value of vulnerability, and it was the power of these three together that ushered her into post-traumatic growth and transformation.

Today, Tammy is sharing her transformation and helping other women experience their own. She's the CEO of Hope Women's Center - Phoenix, a resource and referral center for women and teen girls that has 7 physical centers and 50 mobile centers across the state of Arizona. Fun fact: HWC is considered Arizona's first faith-based, trauma-informed organization, and it was Tammy, Sanghoon, and Michelle who worked collaboratively to create HWC's trauma-informed culture back in 2018. Listen in as the three of them talk about what it looks like to implement trauma-informed procedures, language, and teams in real time - and without a textbook.
